Oh Crap

Wednesday night we got home ready to stay up late to get our stuff ready for the movers to come pack us the next day but instead came home to find our house full of water. Brad could hear water spraying as he opened the front door and stepped into standing water. Water was leaking out the front door. The water line to the ice maker broke for no apparent reason, our latest theory is that when our buyers had the inspection their inspector pulled the frig out and when he pushed it back in the line was touching a coil on the back of the frig. The tubing looks a little melted like it was touching something that melted it. It is unreal that we have lived in this house for 8 years and never had a problem then are gone for a few weeks and complete disaster, what are the odds??? Every room except the back two bed rooms got wet. All the floors have to be replaced, kitchen cabinets, furniture, the walls are wet two feet up, insulation under the house, heating ducts, and there is a lake under our house. On top of that they found asbestos in our walls so the demo alone will cost around $80,000. Right now we are waiting for things to dry and decide what can be saved. We will move later next week then they'll start the asbestos removal process. If we don't lose our buyer they'll get a whole new house. What a disaster! This is nightmare. At least we have good insurance, thank goodness.

Weds night after the clean up people started ripping the carpet out.

Thurs morning, front room already starting to dry.

Ben's room was one of the wettest.

Kids rooms

Our room before all the carpet had been taken out, everything but our closet got wet. Thank goodness because all my shoes were on the floor in the closet.

Kitchen yesterday before all the floor was taken up (all the layers of ancient linoleum hiding underneath) and now the cabinets are out.

Today was cold here in Spokane, 81 degrees, coldest day we've had since arrival. But we still swam in the pool anyway. Still getting used to the thunder and lighting storms they have around here. Last night extreme weather alerts flashed on the TV every other minute, 60 mile an hour winds, hail, and severe thunder and lighting heading our way, get in doors and take cover! It was like being in a mini tornado or something, love it. We took our lovely, sweet daughter for a back to school hair cut this weekend and she screamed and cried (and acted like a toddler) through the whole thing. Makes me nervous about kindergarten.... although everyday she talks about and says she can't wait to go. Ben is not quite getting this going on the potty thing, but he is loving running around nudie and talking about going potty. Mostly just saying poop and pee every other word. I learned the hard way that generic stool softener from Wal-Mart is NOT the same as miralax. I was in so much pain I was starting to think I needed a colon transplant. Consider yourself warned! We baked cookies today, then while we were at the pool the darn dog ate half. Between that and barking at everything she is on our list. We are ready to be reunited with our stuff! Heading back to the west side soon to pack and officially move.

Getting ready

We are getting ready for Kindergarten. New school clothes, shoes, school supplies. It makes me sad that long lazy days at home with the kids watching them grow and play are officially over. Abi will be at school everyday. It's the end of an era. I'm so glad I got to spend so much time with them over the past 5 years going to the zoo, children's museum, parks, play dates in the middle of the day. It will be good for Abi to go to school she's so ready and she'll love it. It will also be good for Ben to make new friends and learn from someone besides me. It will be good for me to work some day shift hours and get to spend more time together as a family evenings and weekends. My first couple weeks of work were hard to be away from the kids, I wanted to cry. It's hard to be new and have so much to relearn but things are going good and I can actually work at work. We are also getting ready to move out of the apt and all our stuff into our house next week, so excited to be in a home again!

Spokane River

Our apartment is right by the Spokane river and the Centennial trail so we like to go for an evening stroll with the kids on their bikes.

We got Abi registered for Kindergarten today! Only two weeks until school starts so we are working on writing letters and numbers and reading every night. I think she's going to love school this year.  The kids have been loving all the attention the babysitter/nanny has been giving them all day but we are going to be so ready to get out of the apartment and move into our house (and start school). Work is going good and we are adjusting to our new life.

Holy moly it has been hot over here, mid 90's all week. Kids are good, they love the babysitter and swimming all day. Yesterday we went to Discovery Park, they did not want to leave. My new job is going good, it's just hard going from an organized, high tech lab to an old, unorganized lab. It will be an adjustment, I just have to remember it is what I make of it. Today was a little frustrating, but tomorrow will be better. Maybe someday I can help them bring them up to speed. Doing something new isn't always the easiest but hopefully will be the most rewarding.

Spokompton

I now know why living in an apartment with two kids and a dog is a bad idea. We have to be the loudest family on the planet. Between the kids screaming and fighting, me yelling at them, and the dog barking at everything that moves outside I'm surprised we haven't been kicked out yet. The apartment is nice, it came fully furnished with house keeping services, but feels more like living in a hotel. The best part is the pool and gym, we definitely can't complain for a place we get to stay for free. Everyday has been in the 90's and we have gone for a swim at least once or twice everyday. We have been here for four days and Abi has already learned to swim by herself across the pool without anything and put her face underwater. She has turned into a little fish. Ben is getting braver in the water too. Both our jobs are going good, we are all just a little exhausted from adjusting. It is pretty sweet to go for an evening run in 80 degree weather while the sun is setting surrounded by foothills and the Spokane river :)

Last day at our house

We'll miss you old house. And I'll miss my yard. We put so, so much work into both. Bummer that all my veggies are just getting ripe and we actually have grapes this year! The car is packed and we are ready to go. The kids are more than ready and so am I. It's a little sad and exciting. So off we go, see you soon!
